Personal:

I'm married to a really great guy named Mike.  He runs, too, and it's fun to share that hobby.  I can keep up with him most of the time, but not always.  We have three kids, 2 boys and a girl.  I watch many, many baseball games each year because both my boys play.  And then I throw in a few dance competitions, because that's what my daughter does.

The last time I ran this race was in 2006, and my time was 1:27:34.  I hoped I could do close to that well today, at least under 1:30, hopefully closer to 1:28.  So, I did better than expected.  This is my third best time ever on a 1/2 marathon, so that's good, too.  But even as much as my time, I feel good that I felt good for the whole race.  I was able to keep pushing right until the end and my mile splits were pretty even. I felt strong and steady throughout the race. In fact, that's the mantra I used over the last two miles to keep myself  pushing, "strong and steady". I'm pleased that I didn't have any mile that started with a 7.  My splits according to the white, A-frame mile markers were:

1 - 6:57 (it was hard to get out of the crowd!)
2 - 6:34
3 - 6:48
4 - 6:40 (had to stop and tie my shoe just before this mile marker.  Arg!)
5 - 6:37
6 - 6:46 (ate my sports beans about here)
7 - 6:38
8 - 6:02 (I felt really strong through these trail miles, even though they were a little rolling)
9 - 6:40
10 - 6:33
11 - 6:35 (the hill in this mile was difficult; I could feel my legs fatiguing)
12 - 6:51
13 - 6:51

It's funny.  I didn't know until about a month ago that there was a term for when a girl passes a guy in a race.  Now that I know that that's called being "chicked", it somehow made it more motivating for me to do it.  Whenever I passed a guy (and I passed quite a few), I told myself that I just chicked him.  I, myself, got chicked a couple of times (is that what it is called when a girl passes another girl?), but most of them were during the first half of the race and I mostly passed them back.  However, a girl whose name I think is Whitney passed me around mile 11 looking very strong.  I also got passed by one guy in the last mile (is there a term for that?  Is that getting "duded"?).

This bodes well for my time in St. George.  If I can keep my miles up, I think I should be able to run at least 3:15 there this fall.

Mike and I had to run off home so I could get a wedding cake done and delivered, so I didn't get to stick around and chat as long as I would have liked.

Peggy, they announced that you were 2nd not 3rd. Hopefully you just typed it in wrong. You are awesome.

Great job, Peggy!! That hill did not slow you down at all. AMAZING WOMAN!!!

From peggy on Aug 25, 2008 at 00:08:51

Thanks, girls. Michelle, they gave me the 2nd place age group prize, but the third place woman overall was in my age group; so, technically, I was third in my age group.

Nice run Peggy! I was in the same boat as you. There was actually 3 in my age group but Josh got 3rd place overall and when you get an overall they erase you from the age group category. Next time, you need to start in the front. Dont let those anorexic looking people get in your way. I did that with a few races till I realized that it was just slowing me down and its better to find someone right away that you feel is running your race to help pace you. Put your time in the predictor at the top and it will give you an idea of how St. George is. Or you can put it in www.mcmillanrunning.com and it will do the same. Great job again, I wished I could have been to both races!

Peggy just wanted to tell you I though you did awesome. As I recall you chicked ( I didn’t know that it was called that until post race either) me between 8 and 9. Your running attire caught me a little off guard and I didn't see your bib and I remember wondering “is she in this race or did she just jog past me?”

I finished right behind you in the chute (about 2 seconds) although for quite awhile I total lost site of you. Just wanted to tell you again how awesome you did and how relaxed you looked. Keep up the great work and maybe you will pass me again in St. George.
